I,
My tasks on MOSAiC
Primarily I will be responsible for several field and lab measurements of snow during leg 1. However, due to the interdisciplinarity of MOSAiC, I will also participate in other tasks in the sea ice team, like, for instance, ice core sampling or ice thickness measurements.
I am most excited about
It is indeed a childhood dream of mine to participate in a ship expedition. Furthermore, visiting the Arctic will be the first time for me. We will have the opportunity to aggregate unique datasets with state-of-the-art measuring instruments. Snow data for this region - especially in the Arctic winter - is often only sparsely available to date. Based on the data that will be collected during MOSAiC, we will gain a better understanding of snow on arctic sea ice. Thus, we will be able to enhance snow- and climate models. Challenges will be for sure the darkness for most of the time during leg 1, the sea ice dynamics which may destroy our setups and may makes measurements difficult, as well as harsh weather.
